Important: Further Pool Closures

Please note that unfortunately the pool is closed again today (Sunday 4th March) due to the leisure centre operator running out of gas, so the pool cannot be heated.  This is very frustrating but is outside of our control.  Therefore there will be no swimming sessions tonight.

We are unclear at this stage whether the pool will be open again for our sessions tomorrow night (Monday 5th March).  Since we may be unable to issue updates at short notice, please keep an eye on the leisure centre’s own website for updates tomorrow.

Gala Update

Gemini Gala (3rd March) – Cancelled

Due to the weather conditions we cannot be sure everyone will be able to make it to Basingstoke safely (including the other teams, the officials and the leisure centre staff).  Therefore the gala has been cancelled, to be rearranged at a later date.

Club Race Night Gala (24th March) – Entries Still Open

Remember all swimmers can enter our club race night gala which is being held on Saturday 24th March.  More information and the entry form can be found here: Gala Info & Entry Form.

You can send entries directly to Anne ( or just email her with the swimmer’s name and which strokes & distances they want to enter, with entry fees to be paid afterwards.

We can only run events like this if we get enough entries, so we encourage everyone to enter.  The deadline for entries is Monday 12th March.

Gemini Trophy Gala (Basingstoke Aquadrome 3rd March 6:00pm)

Please check the noticeboard at the pool to see if you have been selected for this gala, and tick to confirm you will attend.
  • This is a team gala against other club(s) where we will choose who swims which events.
  • We need to put 2 full teams in for this gala, so please make every effort to come if you are selected.
  • We are short in some age groups, so some people will be “swimming up”.
  • Please ensure you are there before 6:00pm ready for warm-up.
  • Ask Emily, Mark or Guy if you have any questions.

NOTE: We are aware John Hanson has a netball weekend which clashes with this gala, so we have not selected any girls likely to be affected.  However, if you are in Competitive Squad, have not been picked for this gala, but are available, please let us know.

Half Term & More

Half Term Swimming: All swimming club sessions will continue as normal throughout half term week.

Club Fees: Please can everyone make sure their Standing Order is set to pay club fees within the first 15 days of each month.  This makes our admin much easier, thanks.

Diving Session: Remember the diving session at Basingstoke Aquadrome this Saturday from 5pm to 7pm (see previous news item for details).

Diving Session at Basingstoke Aquadrome – Sat 3rd Feb 5pm-7pm

We are pleased to be able to offer this additional session, focusing on diving including competitive starts from racing blocks which the temporary pool cannot accommodate.

This session is NOT suitable open to those who swim in our Learn to Compete squad (i.e. those who swim on Monday at 6:30pm).

It is suitable for EVERYONE ELSE from all other squads, including masters.

This is a vital part of competitive swimming which we have limited ability to practice, so you are requested to make every effort to attend.

Please tick the sheet on the noticeboard at the pool to confirm you will attend.  A donation of £3 per swimmer is requested to cover the cost of coaching and pool hire.

It’s important that we have up-to-date information for all members, so please can parents (or members over age 18) print, complete and sign the Member Information Form below (one per swimmer) and bring it to the pool next week.  Don’t worry if you aren’t able to print at home – we’ll have some blank forms at the pool.

Please ensure swimmers arrive in plenty of time for their sessions, with goggles and any other kit already adjusted and ready for use.  For all sessions of 60 minutes or longer, we expect everyone to bring a drink.

See you next week …….
