What is Water Polo?

Water polo is a fast-paced, exciting team sport played in the pool - think of it as a mix between swimming, handball, and basketball, all rolled into one! Two teams battle it out to score goals by throwing a ball into the opposing team’s net, all while treading water and staying afloat.

It's a fantastic way to build fitness, coordination, and teamwork, and no two games are ever the same. Whether you're sprinting on a counterattack, defending your goal, or lining up the perfect shot, water polo keeps you constantly moving and thinking.

Don’t worry if you haven’t played before—if you’re confident in deep water and up for a challenge, you’ll pick it up in no time. It’s a brilliant way to stay active, make new friends, and be part of a supportive, competitive, and fun club environment.

Our Teams & Achievements

We’re incredibly proud of our water polo squads and the dedication, teamwork, and skill they show both in training and in competition. Our players regularly represent the club in local leagues, friendlies, and tournaments - often coming away with medals, trophies, and a great sense of team spirit.

From thrilling last-minute goals to brilliant defensive plays, we’ve had plenty of memorable moments in and out of the pool. Beyond the team success, several of our players have achieved individual recognition, earning selection for regional and even national teams, and developing into strong, confident athletes through their commitment to the sport.

Whether you're chasing podium finishes or simply looking to improve, there’s a place for you in our growing and supportive water polo community.

Our water polo sessions take place on Thursday evenings from 7:00–9:00pm at Andover Leisure Centre. Swimmers can attend for one or two hours, depending on age and experience, and all sessions are coached by our amazing head coach, Katy.

At the moment, we have a junior team, and we welcome new players who are confident in deep water and keen to try something new! Whether you're completely new to the sport or already have some experience, our sessions are a great way to build skills, fitness, and friendships.
